Six Reasons to Visit Phoenix, Arizona in the Spring

April 5th, 2018 by

Phoenix and its neighboring cities, like Gilbert, are bustling with things to see and do, and there’s no better time to get out and experience the local culture than during the spring months. The weather warms up just enough to help you shake off winter cabin fever and find an activity nearby. If you’re looking for an excuse to visit the Phoenix area this spring, keep these reasons in mind.

Major League Baseball Teams

Phoenix and the surrounding cities host the Cactus League branch of spring training for Major League Baseball. From February through late March, 15 teams will be practicing and playing exhibitions at area baseball stadiums. Some will even host games against local college teams. Exhibitions are scheduled every day for the rest of spring training, and you can watch these athletes perform for a fraction of the cost of attending a regular season game.

NASCAR Spring Race Weekend

Another sports tradition that draws crowds to Phoenix, the NASCAR Cup Series 500 occurs every year in March. Practice sessions are held the Friday before the big weekend, and the official races take place on Saturdays and Sundays. Head to the Phoenix International Raceway to see why this event is so popular.

Spring Festivals

Numerous festivals and events take place every spring. Catch these happenings from March through May:

  • Tempe Spring Festival of the Arts: Attend this celebration of local art plus beer, wine, cuisine, and live entertainment.
  • Scottsdale Arts Festival: This three-day festival celebrates the work of local and national artists. There’s also food, live music, wine, and beer.
  • Phoenix Film Festival: Running for 10 days in April, the Phoenix Film Festival showcases 200 films, including screenings and Q&A sessions with producers, directors, and actors and actresses.
Schnepf Farms’ Peach Festival: Visit Schnepf Farms this May to celebrate all things peach. Come early for the peach pancake breakfast, and walk the festival grounds to enjoy live music, food samples, and more.

The McDowell Mountain Music festival is held annually in the first week of March, and the Innings Festival takes place at the end of the month. Both multiday events attract world-class music talent and have featured artists such as Big Gigantic, Father John Misty, Dr. Dog, and Queens of the Stone Age performing live

Cacti and Wildflowers

With so many wonderful spots for hiking, biking, kayaking, camping, and walking, the pleasant weather is the only excuse you need to visit the Phoenix area in the spring. Visit the Sonoran Desert, which comes to life with blooming cacti and wildflowers. You can also take a day trip to the Grand Canyon and beat the summer crowds.

Restaurant Patios

The weather is so nice in this part of the country that many Phoenix restaurants feature patio seating. Take advantage of this fact during the spring months. Come by in the evening as the sun sets and sit outside, cocktail or wine in hand, and connect with new or old friends.

You still have plenty of time to enjoy a Phoenix spring vacation. Whether you’re a sports lover or want to experience local art and culture, there are plenty of good excuses to visit the area.
